Everyday as we die, we must be reborn.
If there were no death, life would be meaningless.
Because death stands behind life, supporting it, life can shine brilliantly.
Life and death, like day and night, are complete in their symbiosis.
As there is no such thing as an endless day, so too, no endless night.
The day wanes and night comes; as the night deepens, the new day grows near.
In this way, moment to moment, we are reborn even as we die.
So, in living we must work to the edge of pain, pouring everything we have into life. Then, when our life is ended, we must abandon it and depart at once, without regret.
As a fruit ripens, it naturally falls from the branch,
and it is only then that something new can grow in its place.
Creating a new day, everyday, through being born anew moment to moment,
in such a life, fresh winds and fragrant gardens are given us.
We must examine every moment, asking what sort of wanderers we are,
where we have come from, and where we go.
