Buddhism is a subject religion. It seeks direct insight into the very nature of existence itself, beginning insight into the nature of our being. “What am I?” “What is this ‘I’?, and where did it come from?”
When I was born, where did I come from? When I die, where I will go? When you just ask yourself these fundamental and existential questions of our life, at that point all thinking is completely cut off. Inside and outside completely become one, because without thinking there is no subject or object.
Mahayana Buddhist teaching begins at this point of emptiness and non-self. It shows how we can begin with the experience of emptiness to attain ‘complete world’ This complete world means truth. When your mind has cut off all thinking, there is no ‘I’.
When there is no I, then the mind is clear like space, which means your mind is clear like a mirror. It only reflects all things that appear in front of it exactly as they are: the sky is blue, the tree is green. When you see, when you hear, when you smell, when you taste, when you touch?everything, just like this, is truth. This is, we say, ‘complete world’
When you ask that question-“What am I?” “Only don’t know…”-then you, the universe, and everything-BOOM!-completely become one. So Buddhist teaching always point directly to the nature of your mind.
△direct insight 직접적 통찰(직관) △subject or object 주체나 객체 △to cut off all thinking 생각을 끊다 △BOOM!
